About Thomas Klasmeier

Thomas Klasmeier

Who I am

I am Thomas Klasmeier – engineer, metrologist, entrepreneur. For over 20 years, I have been working with one of the most precise and sensitive measured variables: temperature. What for many is “just” a value on a display, is for me a fascinating interplay of physics, technology, and genuine craftsmanship.

My path to temperature measurement

My passion started early: Even during my studies, I specialized in calibrating thermometers. I wrote my diploma thesis on this topic. And what started in the laboratory back then, developed year after year – until I followed in my father’s footsteps and took over the management at Klasmeier.

As a successor, I have not only continued the family business, but also developed it further.

What drives me

I believe in the power of precision.
Because precise temperature measurement is far more than technology – it is the basis for quality, safety, and progress. Whether in food production, aerospace, or research laboratories: Without reliable temperature data, everything comes to a standstill. I love the challenge of developing solutions that really work.

What I do today

With my team, I operate a ISO/IEC 17025 (DAkkS) accredited calibration laboratory, develop and manufacture precision thermometers according to ITS-90 – and support companies throughout Europe in setting up and operating their own calibration processes.

My focus areas:
• Calibration of thermometers with temperature fixed points and highest accuracy
• Development of Standard Platinum Resistance Thermometers (SPRTs)
• Seminars & training courses on temperature calibration
• Consulting on the establishment or optimization of calibration laboratories

We recently manufactured our 1,000th precision thermometer – a milestone I am proud of.

My Blog – Sharing Knowledge

On this blog, I share my expertise from over 20 years of practice in high-precision temperature measurement.
I write about current developments in metrology, metrological backgrounds according to ITS-90, and provide practical insights from everyday laboratory work – for users, developers, and calibration experts.

Humanly speaking?

In addition to my professional activities, I am a globetrotter and photographer. I have traveled to more than 40 countries on all seven continents – including Antarctica – climbed mountains and captured the world and its people through my camera.
